Video conferencing systems continue to evolve in the visual communications marketplace. Sony is leading this evolution by staying ahead of the latest technological trends and developing systems that meet customers' demands. The flagship PCS-G70P video conferencing system is the latest solution to meet the needs of users who require high resolution video.

Boasting a maximum video transfer rate of 4 Mbps over an IP network the PCS-G70P provides the highest video resolution of all models in the PCS series. By adopting the H.263 video codec 4CIF format, the PCS-G70P produces image resolution comparable to that of standard TV broadcasts. It can also switch to the H.264 video codec for higher throughput or revert to previous versions of the ITU-T codecs to maintain compatibility wth legacy systems.

The PCS-G70P has an optional 6-way internal MCU (multipoint control unit) that supports a simultaneous multipoint video conference session between itself and up to five other endpoints. For larger video conferences, two PCS-G70P units can be cascased together to support a maximum of 10 endpoints. This MCU option also bridges mixed calls between ISDN and IP networks, speed matching links (connecting each endpoint at their respective bitrate) without lowering the performance of the entire system.

Other key features of the PCS-G70P include a site-name display function, support for up to 5 monitors that display far-end sites in addition to the main monitor and dual camera input which can be used to provide more video coverage. The PCS-G70P also incorporates features such as H.239 data sharing, QoS functions, AES encryption and digital whiteboard support.
